Gallup is out with new data on the correlation of poverty to other problems. It turns out that poverty is actually really bad. Stunning I know. There is lots of great data in the Gallup release, including two questions on healthy food affordability and consumption, a topic that seems to be really popular these days among certain types of leftists. The most troubling figures — in my view — are those tracking health ailment differentials, depression in particular.
Nearly a third of impoverished people are depressed, an unsurprising conclusion as poverty is quite a depressing condition to find oneself in. I never imagined the depression differential would be this high though, with basically twice as many impoverished people depressed as those who are not in poverty.
