New post at policy shop. Excerpt:
The coming indignities do not stop at cutting food assistance. As the New York Times explained on Friday, the refusal of many GOP governors to expand Medicaid as part of Obamacare is scheduled to generate absurd and unsettling scenarios for the poor. As Obamacare comes on line, a gap will open in states that have not expanded Medicaid. Those with incomes above the poverty line all the way up to 4 times the poverty line will be eligible to receive government assistance for their healthcare. Those below the poverty line who fail to qualify for Medicaid in its unexpanded form will get nothing. They will be, quite literally, too poor to receive government healthcare assistance. Should they try to sign up for the assistance, they will be told they must make more money first.
